Why Sir Alex Ferguson's punishment for Alan Wiley outburst won't teach him anything about respect - or Respect
I didn't think Sir Alex Ferguson did much wrong when he criticised referee Alan Wiley apart from airing a grievance in public that he quite rightly retracted once the adrenalin of a Premier League match had subsided.
But talk about typical FA. We were led to believe that Ferguson would be given the mother of all punishments. That the Manchester United boss would learn about Respect the hard way.
I was half expecting the disciplinary panel to be wearing black caps when they handed down their verdict.
A two-match ban, with another two games suspended, and a twenty grand fine .
That will never make Sir Alex think again the next time he decides to take out the frustration of a poor United performance on a hapless match official. Thank God
