Alan Wiley should turn his hairdryer on ranting Sir Alex Ferguson
If I were referee Alan Wiley, when Sir Alex Ferguson calls to apologise for his recent rant, I’d tell the Scot to: “f*** off”.
Manchester United manager Fergie had no right to question Wiley’s fitness in a verbal assault following the 2-2 home draw with Sunderland.
If anyone had the temerity to do the same to Fergie by querying his tactics for example, he would rightly get the hairdryer out.
So I urge Alan to stick to his guns and give it back to Ferguson!
Fergie says the things he does because of his standing in the game and the trophies he has won so he thinks he can get away with it.
But it was only right that the United manager finally apologised in a statement at the weekend.
At a time when the authorities are preaching 'Respect’ to refs, what an appalling signal to send to every manager and player when Ferguson can abuse an official in such a publicly humiliating way.
Now Ferguson has promised to phone Wiley to apologise personally.
Wiley is unlikely to let us know how the conversation goes but I hope he turns the air blue.
