Extra refs are a joke - lets get goal-line technology in now
I have to say that UEFA's move in bringing in six officials for games is an absolute joke.
I had a debate about this with Pat Nevin on Thursday and he thinks they could make a difference, but I have to disagree with him.
There was an incident in the Heerenveen-Sporting Lisbon game where a player lifted the ball over the goalkeeper, the defender was running back to clear it and you couldn't see if the ball had crossed the line.
You could see the extra official on the goalline craning his neck to try and see, but he didn't have a clear view because he was trying to look through the goalpost and the netting.
So there you had a situation which they were supposed to help with and they couldn't.
They spent most of the match just standing there watching and they didn't look involved.
They don't even have flags and I'm not sure how they are supposed to attract the referee's attention if they see something.
The whole thing smacks of UEFA doing everything they can not to bow to the inevitable and get the technology in.
What a complete waste of time this is. Let's get goalline technology in - and now.
