John Barnes and Jason McAteer deserved better from dumb Tranmere players
Least surprising news of last week was that two of my former team mates John Barnes and Jason McAteer were sacked from their management positions at Tranmere.
A dire run of just two league wins from 11 matches saw the two ex-Liverpool stars given the boot by the League One club.
I questioned early on in their reign whether the duo were cut out for management.
But the least the pair deserved after impressive playing careers was some respect off their squad.
Yet I gather the duo were known as ’Dumb and Dumber’ at Prenton Park.
And to me that says more about the charlatans masquerading as Tranmere Rovers footballers than it does about two men who have played at the highest level.
Barnes won 79 England caps and played in the World Cup after serving one of the biggest clubs on the planet.
Maybe a few of the Prenton Park players should be reminded that they are playing p***-poor football at the foot of the third tier and are unlikely to ever do enough in the game to call anyone ’Dumb and Dumber’, never mind Barnes and McAteer.
