Jose Mourinho is the only man who could win the Premier League with Liverpool
How Liverpool must wish they could play Manchester United every week.
The Reds’ 2-0 triumph yesterday in the Premier League was their third consecutive victory against the Old Trafford club.
And it was a vital win for under-pressure boss Rafa Benitez as the team needed three points to keep alive their faint title hopes.
Second half goals from Fernando Torres and David Ngog gave the home side a well-deserved win.
And considering some of their dire recent displays, it really was an excellent performance from Liverpool.
After a run of four straight defeats, Benitez’s side showed what has been missing of late as their players got on the front foot to take the game to United.
And the players were obviously up for it against their illustrious neighbours.
I was delighted to see Benitez finally went with two upfront in an attacking formation.
And I am pleased for the Premier League that the country’s most successful club are back in the mix this season.
They are sure to be a force to be reckoned with every week once Steven Gerrard is back and all their star players are fully fit.
Following yesterday’s win I am also happy for Rafa and players to take the plaudits.
But having said that, the same questions for me persist about the club’s future under their American owners and Benitez.
Yesterday’s show of unity at Anfield from owners George Gillett and Tom Hicks was clearly a shame.
And I still think Jose Mourinho is the most likely manager to bring the title back to Merseyside.
I think Mourinho could get the kind of commitment Liverpool showed yesterday out of the team week in, week out.
He is a man players want to run through a brick wall for in every game.
That was what was missing against Sunderland and Lyon recently.
Yesterday Liverpool’s players were always going to be wound up and motivated because of the occasion.
And that is why I am more than ever convinced that the ’Special One’ is the man to take them forward.
