Liverpool have to do the right thing by Torres, and that means surgery now
Fernando Torres had my sympathy playing against Lyon last week in the Champions League when he was clearly struggling for fitness.
I had exactly the same groin injury myself at Liverpool in 1996 when I had a hernia which needed operating on.
I had a dull ache for about six or seven weeks on the right side of my groin area and had it operated on.
Torres has the same injury now and is mulling over whether to have an op, but now it can be done by keyhole surgery.
So I think he needs to get it done and get it done now.
He would then be back playing in five weeks’ time, which I realise is something Liverpool can currently ill-afford, but do they want a fit and healthy Torres in five or six weeks, or below-par performances for the foreseeable future?
I would get him in now and have surgery ASAP.
Given Liverpool’s poor form I can understand concerns at Anfield about losing Torres’ services for over a month.
But they have to do the right thing by the lad and Torres deserves the best treatment to come back sharper and fitter than ever.
