Now Frank Lampard has found his mojo Chelsea will win the Premier League
Chelsea have reeled off emphatic wins at home in their past two games to dispel any suggestion of a crisis.
And hopefully the penny has dropped for new manager Carlo Ancelotti that the key to Chelsea’s success will be utilising Frank Lampard correctly.
A 4-0 win over Atletico Madrid at home in the Champions League and a 5-0 win over Blackburn at the weekend was the perfect response after losing at Aston Villa.
And their return to form has all the hallmarks of a championship-winning team.
I still fully expect Chelsea to win the division after seeing them dismantle Atletico.
And thumping Blackburn is no mean achievement either.
Arguably the most significant aspect of both victories was seeing Lampard’s name back on the scoresheet.
His goal in the Champions League was his first in two months for his club since netting in August at Sunderland.
And I am relieved to see the attacking midfielder has rediscovered his mojo after also netting twice against Rovers.
I would rip up Chelsea’s system all day long to bring the best out of Lampard.
As rather than managers inflicting their game-plans on world class players, which Lampard is, I think sometimes you have to accommodate stars.
And I think Ancelotti should be playing Lampard in a more attacking role all the time.
Last season Lampard thrived as the central midfielder higher up the field.
But this term he has struggled with two out and out strikers infront of him monopolising the play.
Yet both England and Chelsea fans want to see Lampard scoring goals for him to be at his best so I am delighted he has returned to form further up the pitch.
