Portsmouth fans should salute Harry Redknapp for his Fratton Park achievements
The expected fiery reception for Harry Redknapp at his old club Portsmouth thankfully never materialised.
And I actually think the Fratton Park fans should have rolled out the red carpet for Redknapp on his return with Tottenham.
Redknapp may have left Portsmouth for their nearest rivals Southampton in December 2004.
And now at White Hart Lane - after returning to Pompey for a second stint - he has pinched their best talent like Peter Crouch and Jermain Defoe.
But I feel the Portsmouth fans still owe Redknapp a massive debt of gratitude.
They have an old dilapidated stadium which is one of the worst grounds in the top three divisions.
Yet Redknapp took them up from the Championship in 2003, before returning when they won the 2008 FA Cup final.
Those same fans are now ambivalent towards him at best, but he took Pompey as far as they could go.
People have had stands named after them for less than Redknapp has done for Portsmouth and fans should remember him and his achievements fondly.
