It would be Special to see Mourinho back in England
Jose Mourinho may be heading for a possible Serie A and Champions League double, but I’m convinced he can’t wait to come back to England.
The English media are still besotted with the Special One – their love was obvious in the press conference after he masterminded Inter Milan’s defeat of Chelsea last week.
And after casting his spell yet again over Stamford Bridge it is surely time for him to come back to these shores next season.
He was tactically spot on against his old team and his constant dialogue with Esteban Cambiasso and Javier Zanetti was in stark contrast to Carlo Ancelotti, who stood motionless in the Stamford Bridge dug-out.
Of course Ancelotti – who has won the Champions League – may just be a quiet manager.
But I was expecting much more direction from him, especially when Chelsea went behind. As for Mourinho, I fear that Real Madrid will be his next stop.
But for Liverpool fans, wouldn’t it be mouth-watering for the Special One to have that kind of dialogue with Jamie Carragher and Steven Gerrard next season?
The Champions League draw threw up a contrast for our two English survivors
They are two tough games, of course, but it is the Champions League quarter-finals after all.
Manchester United will have too much for Bayern Munich over two games.
The key is stopping the runs of Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben – if Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand can do that, aided by Darren Fletcher - then I think Wayne Rooney will again prove the difference.
But Arsenal face simply the best footballing team on earth at the moment in Barcelona.
I fear Alex Song will prove the weak link over two games against Xavi, Iniesta, and Messi.
Arsenal fans have been rightly singing the praises of Song this season but, for me, he will be exposed against the reigning champions. The tie could be a classic, but it will be Barca to go through.
