Why Ian Holloway is taking inspiration from foreign fields

Ian Holloway earned a reputation for direct tactics in spells at Bristol Rovers, QPR, Plymouth and Leicester.

But the charismatic manager has changed his style at Championship Blackpool and is reaping his rewards.

Holloway, 46, came on my talkSPORT phone-in on Saturday following their 4-1 home win over Scunthorpe, which was his side’s fifth game unbeaten.

And he revealed how he has been inspired by foreign managers like Roberto Martinez and Paulo Sousa playing good football in the Championship.

He now sometimes goes 4-1-3-2 or 4-3-3 and it has completely changed his footballing philosophy.

So perhaps other British managers should look at their counterparts from abroad and adopt a similar approach as well.
