Champ of the Week: Jonathan Woodgate
Jonathan Woodgate, the 31 year-old defender, was inspirational in Stoke’s Europa League victory on Thursday night. It was great to see the former England star back in competitive action although I vividly remember seeing him play for Spurs in Europe before then to vanish through injury.
Chump of the Week: Steven Whittaker
It was literally a “throw back” to when you were at school – hurling the ball at an unsuspecting opponent. That’s exactly what Steven Whittaker did in the 18th minute against Malmo in a Champions League qualifier and cost his club around £15 million.

Next weekend the Premier League begins and at last Match of the Day returns to our screens. Saturday nights are never the same without seeing Gary Lineker’s grey shirts and hearing the Sahara wit of Alan Hansen.
