Why I fear today's Merseyside demolition derby will be anything but pretty

The demise of Liverpool FC has been like watching a car crash and poor Kenny Dalglish has been asked to get back behind the wheel and steer the apparent write-off back to the garage.

At Bloomfield Road on Wednesday, he resembled the Stig driving Del Boy’s Robin Reliant.

It’s the Titanic versus the Toffeemen today with Everton as the potential iceberg but a home derby could be the perfect tonic for this toiling Liverpool side although it will have to be far more competitive and aggressive.

All Anfield wants to see is more passion and commitment and hopefully an overdue clean sheet.

On the other hand, Everton are in better form but David Moyes has not won in eight matches on the opposite side of Stanley Park.

Tim Cahill, Phil Jagielka, Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher are all missing but Dalglish and Moyes will hope another hero can emerge to save their season.

Whoever draws first blood should win but it won’t be pretty… demolition derbies normally aren’t!
