Why Aguero is a natural-born table-topper plus my Champ and Chump of the Week
Table football – we’ve all played it at least once in our lives.
Were you ever up against the smart guy with the double-jointed wrist whose centre-forward magically spun and flashed the ball into your goal? Well Sergio Leonel Aguero del Castillo of Manchester City is that centre-forward – but just a little bit bigger!
Small, stocky and sharp, Aguero is any defender’s nightmare, With 14 goals in 18 starts, the 23-year-old Argentina international just loves to score (it must run in his family – his father-in-law Diego Maradona wasn’t bad).
Sergio struck in the 5-1 rout at White Hart Lane in August, but although City have lost banned Vincent Kompany, and the Toure brothers to the African Cup of Nations, there is enough quality left for them to see off in-form Spurs, who will miss Emmanuel Adebayor missing up front.
Peter Crouch has scored in the last two meetings between the sides – one in the right goal and one in the wrong net.
But the giant striker now plays at Stoke City, and he’d be too big for table football anyway!
Champ of the Week: David Beckham
Wasn’t it great to see David Beckham putting himself forward to captain the GB Olympic football team this summer? Stuart Pearce needn’t worry about who is to be skipper now that David has so kindly volunteered himself. Do you feel under any pressure Stuart?
Chump of the Week: Roberto Mancini
Has Mancini been hypnotised by Paul McKenna into believing that some object is stuck between his thumb and forefinger and that he has to wave his hand to get rid of it? How would you like it Roberto if someone did it to your team?
And finally...
Just heard that Rio Ferdinand and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will have their Twitter handles embroidered on to their boots for this afternoon’s game at the Emirates. Perhaps LEFT and RIGHT would have been more appropriate!
