Six reasons why Manchester United will qualify for the Champions League final

On Tuesday Wayne Rooney and Rio Ferdinand return to Gelsenkirchen.

That’s where England’s 2006 World Cup hopes were agonisingly ended by Portugal.

This time it’s German opposition that Manchester United face and Shalke have an impressive 100% home record in the Champions League this season.

Here are SIX reasons why United will get to the Wembley final on May 28:

1) The Reds have had a strong campaign on the road in the CL and have won 10 out of the last 12 in the competition.

2) United are competing in their 12th semi-final whereas Shalke have never been at this stage of the Champions League.

3) Last year United snatched defeat from the jaws of victory against Bayern Munich and will no doubt have been reminded of that loss by the Gaffer.

4) Edwin van der Saar, Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic – all winners and normally by any methods.

5) United’s squad can be tactically manipulated to suit any style, particularly on the counter-attack spearheaded by Wayne Rooney.

6) Sir Alex Ferguson – simply the best.
