Rob Green's happy trips to the grocers, plus Chinese consortium need to do their homework on Liverpool

Robert Green is a household name – and face – for all the wrong reasons since England’s World Cup debacle.

The West Ham keeper faces the challenge of getting over his howler against the USA during the coming campaign and has been warned by his club mates that he’ll face abuse from rival fans.

So it was nice to hear that on shopping trips to his local supermarket Green has been greeted by well-wishers, backing him to get over his clanger.

The hand of friendship meets the hand of clod!

Nice to see the spokesman for the Chinese consortium trying to buy control of Liverpool recognises a global opportunity.

Explaining why Chinese ownership will help the Reds of Anfield, he said: “The chance to make billions of fans... it would make them one of the biggest clubs in the world.”

Perhaps he didn’t know that Fernando Torres’s replica shirt’s already outsold any other Premier League player around the world. And that Liverpool, with Manchester United, attract the biggest viewing figures on Sky TV.
