Ashley Cole ups and downs January 2005: Arsenal defender Ashley Cole meets with Chelsea officials in a hotel in what was later revealed as a tapping-up deal. June 2005: Cole fined £100,000 by the Premier League. Chelsea and manager Jose Mourinho were also fined. July 2005: Signed one-year contract extension at Arsenal. July 2006: Cole launches verbal attack on Arsenal in his autobiography. Two weeks later, Arsenal confirm they are talking to Chelsea. August 2006: Signed for Chelsea for £5million with William Gallas going the other way as part of the deal. December 2006: Played his first game against old club Arsenal, where opposition fans waved fake £20 notes with his face on them. January 2007: Suffered knee injury which kept him out for four months. February 2008: Upset over Mourinho’s dismissal, Cole was dropped from the League Cup final side which then lost to Spurs. March 2008: Booked in a league game against Spurs for a high tackle on Alan Hutton, Cole then turned his back on referee Mike Riley in a petulant show of dissent. September 2009: Signed new four-year deal with Chelsea to keep him at Stamford Bridge until 2013. February 2010: Amid growing revelations about his private life, and about indiscretions while on Chelsea and England duty, Cole fractured his left ankle against Everton, ruling him out for three months.
