Andrey Arshavin has agreed to rejoin Zenit St Petersburg on loan, with a view to a permanent £6million deal.
Arsenal are rushing through the paperwork to get the deal done before the Russian transfer window shuts.
Arshavin was keen to go back to Zenit, just over three years after leaving them to make a £12m switch to the Gunners.
The Russian playmaker wants more game time before this summer's European Championship and was fed-up at the Emirates after becoming a bit-part player.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is taking something of a gamble as he cannot bring in a replacement because the English transfer window has already closed.
But the Gunners see it as a good deal for a 30-year-old with only 18 months left on his contract.
