Blackburn boss Steve Kean is ready to make a club record £12million raid for Senegal striker Papiss Cisse at the start of a major spending spree.
Kean hopes to agree a fee with German club Freiburg today and talk the powerful 26-year-old into coming to Rovers as their biggest signing in years.
Cisse is one of the most respected forwards in the Bundesliga and has scored 28 goals in 48 games since joining them from Metz and maturing into a powerful force.
Kean wants to spend big on a striker and the Indian owners have given him the cash to back up his ambitions.
Cisse has emerged as Blackburn’s first choice after a surprise move for Roma’s Montenegro international forward Mirko Vucinic proved to be too expensive and complicated.
Kean has also signed Paraguay’s youth international skipper Rodrigo Baez.
The Rovers boss agreed a deal with Baez’s club Olimpia for the midfielder who will cost an initial six-figure fee that will rise if he makes the Premier League.
