Chelsea could use midfield ace as shock bait for Modric

Frank Lampard may be used as a shock makeweight in a deal to lure Spurs star Luka Modric to Chelsea.
The Blues are refusing to give up on Modric and will make a renewed bid when the transfer window reopens next month.
Spurs boss Harry Redknapp would see Lampard as a direct replacement for Modric and that could swing the deal. Lampard missed a penalty and was hauled off after 60 minutes in yesterday’s 3-0 win at Newcastle.
Chelsea made three bids for the Croatian in the summer — which were rejected by Tottenham — who insisted Modric wasn’t for sale at any price. And boss Andre Villas-Boas is also prepared to use Didier Drogba and Nicolas Anelka as bait.
Although Modric stopped short of handing a transfer request in during the summer he made his feelings clear, pleading with Tottenham to allow him to move across London.
There has been suggestions that Modric would be offered a new deal at Tottenham but in the current climate he is unlikely to sign anything as Chelsea renew their interest.
