Chelsea have started talks with Lille about signing Belgian star Eden Hazard, according to reports in France.
French newspaper L'Equipe says the Blues have been tracking the winger for over a year, and are now ready to make their move.
According to the report, Chelsea are prepared to offer €30million for the 21-year-old as boss Andre Villas-Boas begins his rebuilding programme at Stamford Bridge.
But the deal will not be straightforward, as L'Equipe claims Lille are demanding €40million for their most highly-rated young player, and also do not want him to leave in January, preferring for any deal to wait until the summer.
The news is a clear sign that Blues owner Roman Abramovich is backing his young manager to overhaul the squad, despite the team's patchy form this season that has seen them fall 11 points behind league leaders Manchester City.
Hazard, who is under contract until 2015, was on Arsenal's radar last year, and is also being tracked by AC Milan and rivals Inter, as well as Bayern Munich and Real Madrid.
