Carlo Ancelotti has personally called David Beckham in a bid to persuade the former England captain to join him at Paris Saint-Germain.
But Beckham is still set to agree a contract extension with the LA Galaxy within the next week.
PSG sporting director Leonardo revealed at Ancelotti's unveiling on Friday that Beckham is leaning towards staying in California because he does not want to uproot his wife Victoria and young family for potentially only 18 months.
The 36-year-old has also enjoyed his best season in the MLS after helping the Galaxy to the title in a team including Robbie Keane and Landon Donovan.
Beckham is understood to have received offers from both PSG and LA Galaxy allowing him time to play in the London Olympics if selected.
The former Manchester United star plans to attend the FA Cup tie against Manchester City on Sunday before returning to LA. The Galaxy start pre-season training on January 20 but he will announce a decision before then.
Ancelotti and Leonardo enjoy a warm relationship with Beckham from his Milan days and PSG had hoped to unveil their new signing on their training camp in Qatar this week. That will now not happen.
Speaking on Monday night, Leonardo said: "The question has never been professional but about his family. It is a difficult choice to make to move his family to Paris. We are going to wait a bit. It is a personnel choice and it is not easy for him. We have time and him too. We won't push him - we respect him a lot. I know him. I have an incredible admiration for him as a player and a father too. I understand that it is difficult to move."
Ancelotti will take charge of his first match with PSG in a friendly against AC Millan in Dubai on Wednesday.
"It will be a bit bizarre for me," admitted the Italian, who coached Milan for eight years before joining Chelsea in 2009.
