Manchester United have agreed to sign Benfica winger Nicolas Gaitan in a £20m deal, according to a report in the Manchester Evening News.
Both Fabio da Silva and Federico Macheda will move to the Portuguese side as part of the arrangement, according to the Daily Telegraph. Fabio is likely to go on a season loan while Macheda’s move could be permanent.
Gaitan has enjoyed an impressive season with Benfica, and it has been reported that the Argentine 24-year-old has a £38million release clause.
The Argentinian playmaker, who has been dubbed the ‘Argentine Cristiano Ronaldo’ is more likely to attract a fee in the region of £20million.
But reported comments by Macheda would seem to pour cold water on the report of a 'done deal'.
The striker, out of favour at Old Trafford and with a couple of loan periods already in his United career, said: "Me to Benfica and Gaitan to Manchester United? I don't know about that, but I want to stay in England in the Premier League."
