Reading boss Brian McDermott has launched a shock bid to sign Jimmy Bullard.

McDermott is battling to complete a loan deal for Ipswich midfielder Bullard before this weekend's trip to Middlesbrough.

Former Hull star Bullard is the Tractor Boys' highest earner on £18,000 a week but has not started a game since November.

And McDermott wants to agree a deal with Ipswich as he bids to power up his Championship promotion challenge.
