Redknapp admits he's unlikely to sign Beckham

Paris Saint Germain are favourites to sign David Beckham as Harry Redknapp has refused to guarantee him a regular place at Tottenham.
The former England captain combined with Robbie Keane to set up LA Galaxy’s winner for Landon Donovan against Houston in the MLS Cup Final on Sunday.
The triumph could mark Beckham’s last appearance in the States, as his Galaxy contract expires next month.
But Spurs boss Redknapp admits the form of England winger Aaron Lennon and World Cup finalist Rafael van der Vaart could derail his attempts to land the superstar.
Beckham all but bade his farewells to the club he joined in 2007 after Sunday’s match in California.
The midfielder, who wants to play for the GB team at next summer’s London Olympics, said: “Whether I stay or not, I’ve had an amazing five years. I’ve loved it here.
"The fans have been unbelievable - the owners, the players, every one of them are heroes. They’ve been incredible all season and this has capped it off.
“I’ve said all along it doesn’t matter what happens at the end of the season.
“People were talking about if we didn’t win it was going to be a disappointment and an unsuccessful five years. It’s quietened a few people, which is always nice.
“I’m not in a rush to decide what happens. We go on tour next weekend. We’re going to enjoy that, enjoy this week, because we worked so hard to get to this point.”
A record crowd of 30,281 packed the Home Depot Centre to watch what many believe was Beckham’s LA swansong.
Many Galaxy supporters sang: “We want Beckham” after seeing their side lift their first title since 2005.
The midfielder’s contract doesn't expire until the end of December, so he will participate in the Galaxy's tour of Indonesia, the Philippines and Australia, which begins next week.
That means he will be up for grabs in January and PSG's director of football, Leonardo, has made it clear that he will do all he can to sign the 36-year-old icon.
In contrast, Redknapp has backed away from the idea of signing Beckham.
“It's a difficult one," the Spurs boss told talkSPORT. "I had him training [at Tottenham] last year [and] not only as a player but as a fellow around the place, he was a different class. Everybody absolutely loved him, he had time for everyone - he was just superb.
"He was great to show any young player how to behave. You come in, you train hard. He was the first one in every day, he left late, he'd go to the gym after training, he had time to sign everybody's autographs.
"He's still a fantastic footballer. The problem is that he plays wide right. I've got Aaron Lennon who plays there. Rafael van der Vaart can play there in certain games.
“Wherever he [Beckham] goes, he's going to want to play, so it's not going to be easy to say I can guarantee him a place in the team.
"I wouldn't say it's a definite no-no with Tottenham, but I think he's going to want to play regularly, that's the problem.
“I couldn't sit and say he'll play every game. If he wants to play every game, it may be a problem.
"I could see him coming back to England somewhere and playing. I'm sure there will be plenty of takers.
"You'd want him around your football club because he's such a good influence on everybody."
