Harry Redknapp has insisted Jermain Defoe will not be sold in the January transfer window after a heart-to-heart with the England striker.
Defoe has been frozen out of the starting 11 this season with Redknapp preferring to partner Rafael van der Vaart and Emmanuel Adebayor up front.
With the Dutchman suffering from a hamstring strain, the former West Ham and Portsmouth forward could miss out on a rare start at West Brom tomorrow because of a groin problem.
EXCLUSIVE: Defoe fears for Euro 2012 place
Defoe told Mirror Sport this morning that he is desperate to play regular football to secure a place in Fabio Capello's 2012 squad.
But Redknapp claimed Defoe will get his chance by staying at White Hart Lane.
"He will not be sold - I think he is a fantastic striker," said the Spurs boss. "He scored five times for the reserves against Charlton in midweek with some incredible finishing. He is a top player who is just unlucky.
"The team is playing well and I can't change it. I spoke to him in midweek. He will get his opportunity I am sure, and when he does, I am sure he will take it."
Redknapp also said he felt no after-effects of his recent heart operation.
"I feel good," said the 64-year-old. "I feel no different."
