Aston Villa boss Alex McLeish has added Fulham striker Andy Johnson to his summer wish-list of bargain Bosmans.
First-year Villa boss McLeish is having to rebuild the team on the cheap as owner Randy Lerner continues his cut-backs.
Big Eck has already secured Australia midfielder Brett Holman on a pre-contract, and has identified other potential cut-price recruits, including hitman Johnson.
The 31-year-old, capped eight times by England, has 11 goals this term but is still yet to agree terms at Craven Cottage where his contract expires.
He nearly moved to Blackburn in January, but they scrapped a proposed £50,000-a-week deal.
Johnson knows the Midlands as an ex-Birmingham trainee who spent five years at St Andrew's before moving on to Crystal Palace, Everton and now the Cottagers.
McLeish also likes Newcastle midfielder Danny Guthrie, who is also due to be a Bosman free agent at the end of this season.
