Chelsea are plotting a deadline raid on rivals Manchester United for midfield rebel Paul Pogba.
Andre Villas-Boas sent a top two-man delegation to watch the star in action on Thursday night ahead of making an offer of around £3million.
Pogba is refusing to sign a new deal with the champions, who may cash in on him now rather than see him quit for less when his contract expires.
United boss Alex Ferguson is fuming at the Pogba camp's decision to reject new terms and has left the young Frenchman out of his side, despite ongoing injury problems in midfield.
Chelsea rate Pogaba highly and think they can tempt him to stay in England despite big interest from Inter Milan.
An added attraction with Pogba is that he would be free to play for the Stamford Bridge side in the Champions League this season.
